Trouble report 688

QTVR images sometimes appear grainy or posterized

Versions affected

2.0 - 4.4

Description

QTVR images you create in The Panorama Factory may appear grainy or posterized, particularly in smoothly-shaded areas such as clear blue sky or blank walls.  This happens under two conditions:

  1. You create a QTVR file on a computer with the Color quality setting in Windows Display Properties set to less than 24 bit color (Highest quality).

    or

  2. You create a QTVR file with the Highest quality Color quality setting in Windows Display Properties but you display it on a computer with less than 24 bit color (Highest quality).

In the first case, the image will always display image artifacts, although they may change depending upon the computer you display it on.

In the second case, the image will display normally on a computer with Highest quality Color quality setting but will show artifacts on a computer with less than Highest quality color setting.

Workaround

None.

Status

Both conditions are corrected in V4.5.
