Is there anyway to get a better color depth in QTVR movies, or is the 16 bit color look the limitations of that format? It's very noticeable in panoramas with a lot of sky, where there are many similar blue colors.

With some panoramas, I frequently get errors -37 or -8972 while creating a QTVR, right at the time it finishes creating the QTVR and the file doesn't get saved. It seems like these errors are created from adjusting the field of view(only one of the two angles get changed), or saving the image with a very long file name? (Not a big deal, but the QTVR JPG image quality number seems to decrease by 1 with each QTVR, too?) Thanks! This program is great!!!

I'll respond to each one of the issues you raised. If any of my recommendations help, please post here so that others can benefit.

Just a reminder, please include your email address when you post to the forum so that I can request additional information by email if needed.

Color artifacts

Which compression method are you using for your QTVR panoramas: JPEG, Sorenson, Cinepak or PNG? See the QTVR settings dialog, activated by the QTVR Settings... button on the Save Image dialog.

Color reproduction is better with some compression methods than with others. Some compression methods do show a color contouring effect (16 bit color look). Lowering the image quality setting can also cause image artifacts.

I recommend you use JPEG compression with image quality no lower than 50 to avoid image artifacts. You should not see visible contouring with JPEG if the image quality is set high enough.

Errors creating a QTVR

The Panorama Factory uses the QuickTime DLLs from Apple to encode the QuickTime VR image. The error numbers you are receiving are signalled by the Apple DLLs.

I was able to reproduce error -37 by entering a long file name. I'll have to look into this problem to see whether it can be corrected.

Error -8972 apparently indicates that an error occured during the compression of the image. I recommend you try a different compression method to see whether this corrects the problem.

Image quality decreases by 1 with each QTVR?

I have not been able to reproduce this behavior. Can you give me the exact sequence of commands and buttons that makes this happen?
