Hi Folks,

New user here testing out the demo. Can't find the answer to this question:

I already have a project file with my images selected. One image needed post-pro correction so having done this, I want to re-import it into the project.

I cannot find how to do this.

Using the wizard, the import images button is greyed out.

The add images button is greyed out.

Draging the file from Explorer into the project window does nothing.

How do I replace an image file within the project with a new version of that image file?

In the same way, how do I add files to a project without removing any first? Just a simple append in other words.

Many thanks!

Quite impressed with TPF. Some elements of the GUI I find quite confusing but the speed and results it produces are impressive. A few crashes though :-( Getting interested in buying...

Mark

Once you have stitched a panorama, the Import button is greyed out. This is because The Panorama Factory does not know whether you want to add the new images to the existing panorama or import them for a second panorama (it's possible to make multiple panoramas in a single project).

The Panorama Factory provides methods for adding or removing images from a panorama. Although there's no single command for replacing an image, you can do this by adding the new image and removing the old image.

  1. Exit from the Wizard with the Done button.
  2. Import the replacement image.
  3. Restart the Wizard by selecting the panorama's thumbnail and choosing the Restart The Wizard command (Image menu). You should restart at Wizard step 1 Import your images.
  4. Select the thumbnail for the new image. The new thumbnail is grayed out to indicate that it is not part of the panorama (yet).
  5. Add the image to the panorama with the Add images button or drag its thumbnail into the group of selected images.
  6. Select the thumbnail for the old image that you are replacing.
  7. Remove the old image from the panorama with the Remove images button or drag its thumbnail out of the group of selected images.
After changing the images, you have to restitch the panorama by advancing through the Wizard steps. This is required because you could as easily insert additional images, permanently remove images or replace images with ones that are completely different.

The Add images and Remove images buttons and the technique of dragging thumbnails in and out of the panorama are documented on the help page Wizard step 1/9 – Import your images.

P.S. If you experience crashes, please contact support @ panoramafactory.com so that we can track down and correct the problem. Please include as much specific information as possible about what you were doing at the time of the crash. If possible, include a {Dr Watson} log file for the crash. See How to make a Dr Watson log.

Hi John - thanks for your reply. I have managed to replace the image file as per your instructions.

Unfortunately though, when creating the new pan image, PF just bombed out with an out of memory error. I've mentioned this in the out of memory thread.

I've had about 4 crashes and also have some entries in the event viewer for SideBySide which has only happened since installing PF. Is this related?

As a general comment on your software which I am evaluating against rival products, on the good:

Performance very good
Quality

On the bad:

Very confusing GUI layout, especially wizard integration
Stability

Currently PF is the front-runner for me to buy but I do have concerns about operation which I hope you understand.

Thanks again,

Mark

I believe that the entries in the event viewer are unrelated. I am investigating the cause of these events and trying to determine how they can be eliminated. I have learned that they occur even when The Panorama Factory runs normally. They appear to be caused by MFC80.DLL (a Microsoft DLL used by The Panorama Factory) trying to determine whether your system contains MFCLOC.DLL. MFCLOC.DLL is used only on non-English systems. The absence of this DLL apparently produces these events, but does not cause problems for The Panorama Factory.

I am sorry that you find the GUI and Wizard confusing. There seem to be personal differences on this subject--many users have praised the Wizard interface--go figure! :-)

As for stability, we are committed to correcting problems in the software, but we need your help to reproduce the problems in order to identify and fix them. Once again, please contact us via email to support @ panoramafactory.com. A direct email conversation is the best way for us to request additional information that's needed to help track down the problems.
