Using V 2.3 on PIII Win2K Professional machine with 256k memory. Having no problems working with digital camera input, but Panorama Factory won't allow me to stitch even 3 scanned 35mm frames. 35mm frames are scanned at 4000 dpi and are approximately 2.5 mb each. Neither the classic nor the wizard interface let it happen. I am running with 24 bit option because I do color work in Photoshop. I have read the messages on the forums; I don't even begin to approximate the maximum stitched size in Win2K because I can't stitch 3 frames. I have experimented with lots of settings but no luck. Something has to be really wrong here. What can I try next, or should I simply forget trying to use 35mm at 4000 dpi?

I posted the question so let me tell what I've done about it. John walked through the problem with me and the answer was swap files and memory. I started processing with 256k memory and a system-sized swap file when I couldn't stitch 35mm slides scanned at 4000 dpi. I expanded the swap file to somewhere between 2 gb and 3 gb and even though the process then worked, it took a couple of hours. I then added memory! Memory is dirt cheap here in July, 2001 and 256k memory goes for less than $50 if you shop right. I have added 512k memory and everything now works just like I thought it should. The swap file is still used but usage is minimal and the 2 hour run time is down to about 40 minutes. My opinion is that the answer to any and all problems similar to this one is MEMORY! Get as much as you can and load up your machine, because Panorama Factory works best with large images when it has lots and lots of memory.
